On the bottom layer, use the cardboard backing from one of the picture frames as the base, and place it into the frame. The "front" of the frame is going to be face-down, and you're going to be stacking things from the "back" of the frame. This step is just to figure out what bits are going where, and what the whole thing is going to look like once it's completely done.įor every layer except the top layer, you're going to flip the picture frame. Old school classic covers, with their thick outlines and bold covers, are the best option for this.Īttached is the comic cover I chose for this project, ready to print at 11x17" if you want to use the same one I did and follow along. Also remember that you're going to be cutting these all out with an X-acto knife, so a cover with lots of tiny details or speed lines might be pretty complicated. You want a distinctive foreground, middle ground, and background, so you have clear separations for your layers. When choosing the cover you want to use, pick something that has a lot of dimension to it.I got my cover printed at 11x17", but ended up only finding good picture frames at 11x14", so I had to trim a little from the top and bottom of my prints to make it fit. When printing your cover, keep in mind the size of your picture frames.You could also scan your own comic book cover, or if you have four or five extra copies of the same comic, you can skip the printing step and use the original cover. You can probably find some good ones on a Google Image search, just make sure you use the Large Size filter so you'll get a big image.
